I want to dedicate this blog post to all the future podcasters. If you have thought about hosting a podcast but are not sure what to do first, you are in the right place. Just keep reading.

Step One: Outline Your Podcast.

Before you even start the recording and publishing of your podcast, you must have an idea of what you want to share. You will need a vision for your podcast. A vision is how you want your podcast to affect some kind of change in the lives of your listeners. Next, you will need to outline what types of content you will share to help your audience meet your vision. The key is to always provide value. Last but certainly not least, know your target audience. Who is this podcast for? Who will benefit from your information? You cannot say EVERYONE because when speaking to everyone you end up speaking to no one. Once you have these three things, it’s time to start recording.

Step Two: Record/Edit Your Podcast.

Let me first start out by saying I am a true Apple product user to the core and most of the apps I use in my business are preloaded on my MacBook. So, choosing software to record and edit was a no brainer. Currently, I use is GarageBand to record and edit my podcast. Some other types of software used for podcasting are Audacity and Adobe Audition. You will also need a microphone. I record with the Blue Yeti microphone and haven’t had any problems thus far. There are many microphone brands but I have heard good things about the Rode Procaster as well. The key is the choose the right software and microphone that fits your budget and needs.

If you will be choosing a different podcast host, please feel free to skip steps 3 & 4 and go to the last section.
