Time Management and Your Productive Work Day
One of the reasons most of us (me included) take that leap into entrepreneurship is for the ability to be in control of our schedules. Being more present in my family’s life, was always a goal of mine. When starting my business full time, my family had the belief that I no longer worked (which was totally not their fault). Because I didn’t actually go to a job and clock in they thought that I was available to them for any and everything. Which quickly became a problem with my productivity in my business.
I needed some structure and I needed it fast. I did some research and figured out how to create a time management system that would fit the needs of my growing business. Creating this system has been a true game changer in my productivity and I am now able to start my day with a clear plan.
Three things that I do to help manage my time and ensure that I have a productive work day are to set a work schedule, start my work day with daily planning and work in blocks.
Setting a work schedule is a must if you want to be successful as an entrepreneur. I know our schedule is ours and we can do what we want BUT we still MUST commit to a work schedule. Only you know how much time you can commit to your business. You must first look over your day and see how many hours you can allocate and what specific times you will be working. Of course, the number of hours will be different for everyone but the need for consistency is always the same. Just remember. “Showing up consistently is 40% of being successful.” – Stacey Flowers. So, let’s agree to show up consistently in our businesses to be able to meet our goals.
I start EVERY workday with my Daily Planning Session. I spend the first 30 minutes of my workday going over everything that I need to complete for that day. I add EVERYTHING to my daily planner during this session. I add tasks, habit (routine) tracker, quotes, gratitude and any other inspo that makes for a vibrant day (my planner truly makes me happy when I see it)! Once my planner page is complete, it is on to my purpose work!
Lastly, I work in blocks. Blocks allow me to remain focused and be able to produce a lot of content in one setting. I typically schedule 2 two-hour blocks per day to work on tasks that will require mush focus to complete. My first block will always be for content creation podcast, blogs and social media posts because I am totally awake and focused. My second block will be for design work, client calls and content research because these tasks are my reward for doing the hard work at the beginning of the day. But ultimately, whatever is needed that day is how I will schedule my time blocks.
I really hope this helps you to start your own time management routine that will help you be more productive in your work day! If you have any additional ways to help with time management that you would like to share, please leave them in the comments below!
