3 Skills New Business Owners Should Have
Stepping out on faith and following your dream of business ownership is HUGE! It’s major like a really big deal. You will learn A LOT about yourself and how strong you really are during this journey.
Many new online businesses are started with just a single individual who spends most of their work hours alone creating all their amazingness! Because you are flying solo, there are some skills that you must have in order to be successful in the startup of your business.
First, you must be self-motivated. Yep! Speaking from experience, it often gets really hard to stay focused and motivated when you are wading through your day-to-day task lists. For a person that look to others for their motivation, solely running your business may be difficult.
Some solutions I use to stay motivated are:
Created a LIST of my “whys” for starting my business and keep it in a place where I can reflect on it daily to snap me back into focus and motivate me to continue forward.
Search the Bible for those words that pertain to my feelings or situation and read scriptures that speak to that
Practicing gratitude and creating affirmations are other ways I stay motivated
Second, you must be able to work alone. As stated earlier, in the beginning, most of your work hours will be spent alone. Which is great for us introverts (who are fueled by stepping away and absorbing the silence) but may be somewhat difficult for extraverts (who thrive from interactions with others). Even though you must be able to work alone, you should also start building an online community to connect with other business owners. Also, try to schedule some time each week to get out of the office and mingle with your fellow business owners in your area.
Lastly, you must be able to manage your time. Being able to manage your time is HUGE and maybe should have been listed first. Most people (me included) wanted to start their businesses so they can have freedom over their schedule. When I started my business, I took the word freedom to far. I believed I could do what I want when I want when I felt like it. I soon realized that I was totally wrong with those thoughts and that if I kept with that I would be OUT OF BUSINESS really soon.
If you are not self-motivated, able to work alone or able to manage your time, that is ok! It is NEVER too late to learn a new skill! Always remember you are not limited to your current strengths. With time and effort, you can master any skill you want to have in your life and business!
